An improvised test. Carried out based on personal experiences and relying on the data displayed by an onboard vehicle computer. Positive figures that were subsequently confirmed by concrete and tangible savings when refueling

On one side, a February 2017 Suzuki Vitara 1.6 DDiS 4WD with approximately 145,000 kilometers on the clock. On the other, Pakelo’s Defa Fluid Plus concentrated additive, presented by the manufacturer as a solution designed to improve the performance of any diesel engine by acting simultaneously on the fuel and on the engine’s supply system.
The first effect should be an increase in the cetane number, resulting in more efficient combustion, while the second should involve cleaning deposits and varnish accumulated over time within the fuel system and keeping it constantly clean.
The testing ground chosen to verify whether these claims were concrete was the notorious SS36 highway connecting Milan with the Alto Lario area, continuing from Colico towards Valchiavenna under its original designation and towards Valtellina as the SS38.
According to ACI studies, this road ranks second among extra-urban routes in Italy for the number of accidents per kilometer, behind only the SS719, which connects Prato and Pistoia in Tuscany.
It is therefore not surprising that the entire Milan-Colico route, despite being a four-lane expressway, has speed limits ranging between 90 and 110 km/h along its approximately 80 kilometers. These conditions must also be respected by the most impatient drivers and those with a heavier foot, due to traffic volumes involving both cars and heavy vehicles that generally prevent higher speeds.
The SS36 is a road that the author has traveled almost every week for the past 75 years, initially as a passenger in family cars and later independently, using mopeds, light and heavy motorcycles, countless cars and, during youth and on some occasions, even bicycles.

Since 2017, however, the Suzuki mentioned above has been the almost constant companion for this route. When traveling from Milan to Colico at speeds only slightly above the legal limits, the vehicle normally records fuel consumption ranging between 20 and 21 kilometers per liter, figures measured by the onboard computer and subsequently confirmed at refueling stations.
Both the onboard computer and actual fuel consumption measurements were therefore used to verify the values indicated by the same vehicle on the same route after adding Pakelo Defa Fluid Plus to the diesel fuel.
The additive was first used in March of last year at a 1 percent concentration and then, from the following refueling onward, at a 0.2 percent concentration, the level defined by Pakelo as suitable for “continuous use”.
This definition is particularly appropriate for describing the use of a vehicle that is constantly in operation. After approximately 1,000 kilometers from the first treatment, the vehicle began covering the route described above with fuel consumption ranging between approximately 22 and 23 kilometers per liter under comparable travel conditions.
This represents savings of more than 4 percent, identified through an empirical test without any scientific claim, but which, as mentioned, were later confirmed when the time came to refill the tank.
The conclusion is therefore that Pakelo Defa Fluid Plus, when used correctly, does not perform miracles but does deliver on its promises, positively affecting engine efficiency regardless of whether it is installed in a vehicle, an industrial machine, or an agricultural machine.
Lower fuel consumption means that the cost of the additive can be recovered, while users also benefit from smoother and more regular engine operation as well as faster cold starts.
No Miracles, Only Chemistry
Defa Fluid Plus is a concentrated fluid developed by Pakelo researchers to enhance the cleaning action that all lubricants normally perform inside the engine, but without being able to act directly within the fuel system.
This led to the idea of protecting and cleaning pumps, fuel lines, and injectors by mixing a specific additive with the fuel, while also ensuring that its formulation positively influences the cetane number of diesel fuel and therefore its flammability.
The result is faster engine starts, reduced exhaust smoke, and more efficient combustion processes that help reduce hourly fuel consumption.
In addition to these benefits, Defa Fluid Plus also provides protection for diesel fuel during long periods of inactivity. This is a particularly relevant issue in agriculture, where machines and equipment are often stored at the end of the working season to undergo the necessary maintenance operations.
